What To Wear To A Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is often the final celebration before the big day, after the rehearsal of the wedding and with all your close family and friends in tow.  As with all the wedding events the rehearsal dinner is a major moment and as a guest you want to ensure that you are dressed in your best for the occasion. Often there may be a dress code on the invitation – smart casual, black tie or cocktail dress. If there isn’t a dress code the location, season and time should guide you. And, if you are ever unsure, it is always best to enquire with friends and family.

Our edit below will guide you in choosing the best look for the upcoming rehearsal dinner. We will cover all the dress codes that may be on your invitation. You will want to look and feel your best when celebrating with the fabulous couple and family and friends.

Cocktail Party

The rehearsal dinner that is all about mingling, cocktails and appetizers is the cocktail party. And for the cocktail party you need a chic cocktail dress. When we think of cocktail dresses, we often imagine something short but a jumpsuit or a midi dress is always a fabulous option too!

Black Tie Code

A black-tie dress code calls for a stylish gown or jumpsuit. Look oh so Hollywood glamour at a black-tie themed rehearsal dinner in a sparkly number or an off the shoulder look. Often a black-tie rehearsal dinner is a fancy affair held in a nice restaurant or at a hotel. Pair any of these looks with some jewels for a final touch. These dresses are also great for a formal dress.

Brunch In Style

Sometimes the rehearsal dinner is more of a casual occasion – it could be a brunch,  backyard BBQ or a picnic. In any case it is always a good idea to have a casual dress on hand. A casual dress can be anything from a floral print to a block colour. A casual dress can always be dolled up with a little makeup and a jacket or a bolero – especially in the chillier months.

A Party Dress

A party dress is always a good idea – especially if the rehearsal dinner is bound to be a big celebration of love (with lots of dancing included!) Something that shimmers and sparkles is always a great number to wear on the dance floor. A metallic or sequin gown is the way to go if the rehearsal dinner asks for you to arrive in party mode, or opt for something with a little gold in it – even if it is your jewellery.
